What to Do When You Don't Mix Enough Resin - 3 Great Tips to Fix it!

Sometimes when you're mixing resin, you underestimate how much resin you need and don't measure out quite enough resin to fill your mould. Disaster! Right? Well, you can make sure that this never happens to you. This video shows you one method to work out the volume of your mould. Another way to work out how much resin to mix is to fill your mould with rice or water and then tip that into a measuring cup/jug. But what if you didn't work out how much resin you need before you started and now you've discovered you don't have enough to fill your mould? Here are 3 ideas to try! 1. Top the mould up Mix more resin and try to match the colour .  It's really hard to get an exact colour match... but you might get close enough that no one will really notice the colour difference.  You can barely see the difference in this bangle - it looks like shadow and highlight - and it would be barely noticeable when this bangle was being worn. 2. Glossy, Glossier, Glossiest!

I was a busy little beaver yesterday. Remember that pile of bangles and rings that was on my desk? Well, I sanded my way through quite a few of them. It's a very labour intensive process and by the end of the day my hands had been in and out of water for most of that time and my fingers resembled wrinkled prunes - the things we do for our craft! Luckily, most of the bangles only needed trimming and basic sanding to finish them but I singled this one out for special treatment because I rather liked the way it seemed to glow. You can't really see that glow in the photo, but I could see it had potential so I decided to give this one the full 5-star buffing treatment to help it reach its full potential. This treatment is not for the faint-hearted. After you trim and sand your bangle you turn your attention to buffing to a microfine finish. It takes about half an hour of solid sanding to get through all the grades of sandpaper. But the difference it makes will have you gasping......

My Work Desk Today

Hmmmm...... It seems I have one or two resin bangles and rings to finish! Now that I have a Dremel in my studio, you might be thinking that sanding resin would be an absolute breeze. And it would be if resin didn't produce such fine dust - dust that is not at all good for your lungs. So that means lots and lots of hand sanding..... with wet and dry sandpaper...... and a good dose of elbow grease! It's a good thing that I find this process very therapeutic or with so many pieces to finish, it would be a real chore. So despite the temptation to try out the Dremel on resin, I will be hand finishing all of these pieces. Now let's see how many I get through today. 'Til next time.....
