Resin Tip - How to Demould Silicone Moulds the Easy Way!

Crystals, geodes and the geometric shapes they form are fascinating. For resin crafters and jewellery makers with an interest in these shapes, there's a great selection of silicone crystal moulds available to create your own resin crystals in whatever colour you desire.

Those pretty geometric wand-shaped healing crystals are no longer the domain of those who embrace the healing powers of crystals; they have become a mainstream staple in jewellery and home decor. It's a natural progression from the druzy stones that have been all the rage the last couple of years.

These slender moulds are available in hexagonal, square and round cylinder shapes so you can make your own faux crystals now. Their long, slender shapes make them very appealing as pendants, particularly with some resin dye swirled through them or delicate florals suspended inside.

The Predicament: Demoulding Long, Thin Resin Castings

As mesmerising as the results are, removing long, thin resin castings from silicone moulds can be quite challenging. The delicate and intricate shapes of these crystals and geometric forms can cause the resin to become stubbornly stuck inside the mould, making it difficult to remove without causing damage.

The Solution: A Surprisingly Simple Demoulding Technique

So what do you do when the resin is stuck and you just can't budge it?

I have a surefire way to demould your resin casting from the silicone mould with ease. All you need is some liquid soap and water. This easy technique will have your resin crystals sliding out smoothly in just minutes!

Take a look at the video below to see it in action.

I think you'll be amazed at how quickly it all happens!
