Make these gorgeous ocean-inspired cluster earrings, dripping with dagger beads in luscious greens and blues.
Can you believe they are made using JUST ONE TECHNIQUE?
And it's a basic jewellery technique...
All you need to know is how to Open and Close Jump Rings!
Need a refresher on how to open and close jump rings so that your handmade jewellery doesn't fall apart? See how to do that here.
To make them, you’ll need:
• 10x3mm Czech glass dagger beads: 22 frosted aqua; 16 milky green Picasso; 16 transparent green Picasso (or choose your own colour combination)
• 52 4mm silver jump rings (fine enough to pass through the dagger beads)
• 2 silver earring wires - use these easy-to-open earring wires to make them easy to assemble
You'll also need 2 pairs of chain-nose pliers. Because you'll be opening and closing a lot of jump rings for this project, you'll need some quality pliers. I use these slimline chain-nose pliers. Their slim profile makes them easy to hold in your hands and they're quality pliers at a reasonable price.
How to Assemble the Earrings
Step 1. Open half the jump rings.
Step 2. Connect seven 4mm jump rings to form a chain.
Step 3. Open a 6mm jump ring and slide on a frosted aqua dagger bead. Attach the jump ring to the seventh jump ring (the bottom link of the chain).
Step 4. Pick up two 4mm jump rings and slide an aqua dagger onto each one. Hook one on either side of the first dagger, on the seventh link of the chain.
Step 5. Pick up four jump rings and slide an aqua dagger onto each one. Hook two of these onto the left hand side of the sixth link of the chain and two onto the right hand side.
Repeat the previous step, adding a pair of daggers to each side of the fifth link of the chain. You now have a chain with five aqua daggers on either side and one on the bottom link.
Step 6. To make it easier to handle the chain, attach the earring wire to the top link.
Add a pair of milky green daggers to each side of the third and fourth links of the chain.
Step 7. Add a pair of transparent green beads to each side of the second and first links of the chain.
Step 8. Make a matching earring with the remaining components.
After making these earrings, you will have mastered opening and closing jump rings.
But you don't have to stop there...
